This article will guide you through the steps of transferring your MYKI app to a new device using a different phone number. If you’re using the same phone number, click here. 

Choose the scenario that applies to you:

I-If you have MYKI installed on an existing device 

II-If you have access to your old phone number but don't have MYKI installed on an existing device. 

III-If you don't have MYKI installed on another device and don't have access to your old phone number



I-If you have MYKI installed on an existing device

A. Install MYKI on a new device

The steps will slightly vary depending on the platform you're installing MYKI on. 

  • If you're installing MYKI on your tablet/mobile device: 

Start the process by installing MYKI on your new device and typing in the phone number associated with your current MYKI account.

MYKI will recognize that an existing account is associated with your phone number, you be prompted to choose from one of three options. Pick this one: Add this Device to your Myki account. Your phone will generate a QR code and a pairing code so a device that you already have MYKI installed on can add it. 

  • If you're installing MYKI on your computer: 

Install the MYKI Desktop App, a QR code will be displayed, ready to be paired with a device you already have MYKI installed on. 

B. Pairing 

Open  MYKI app on your existing device. The steps will slightly vary depending on which platform you have MYKI installed on. 

  • If you have access to your MYKI account from the  Desktop App  

Go to the Paired Device section > Click on “Add an App” and type in the pairing code  showing on your new device. 

If you have access to your MYKI account from the Phone App 

  • Go to the Devices tab and click on “Add an App”. Here you can either use the QR code or type in the pairing code displayed on your new device. 

C. Migrate your MYKI account to a new phone number

After pairing your devices together, all your data will sync to your new device.
Now, it's time to insert your new sim card to your new device.

II.If you have access to your old phone number but don't have MYKI installed on an existing device. 

A. Locate a MYKI Backup File

If you don’t have MYKI installed on another device but previously had the MYKI browser extension paired with your old device, there should be a backup on your computer. To locate a backup file, click here.

If you can't locate a MYKI backup file, please reach out to use via email to support@myki.com 

B. Install MYKI on your new device

Now, that you've located the MYKI backup file, you can go ahead and install MYKI on your new device and type in the phone number associated with your current MYKI account. Make sure to insert the sim card associated with your old phone number to receive the sms code and verify your MYKI account. 

The steps will slightly vary depending on the platform you're installing MYKI on. 

  • If you’re installing MYKI on your mobile device or tablet: 

Since you’re using the same phone number, MYKI will recognize that an existing account was previously associated with this phone number. You will be able to choose from one of three options. Choose “Create a New Account”.  The app will show zero passwords, but you will be able to regain access to your account using the backup file you located in Step A ( Locate a MYKI Backup File) 

  • If you’re installing MYKI on your computer: 

Launch the MYKI Desktop App and follow the steps outlined in this article to learn how to install MYKI on your computer.   

C.  Pair the new MYKI app with the MYKI browser extension

 Now it’s time to pair the MYKI app on your new device with the MYKI browser extension. Click on the MYKI owl showing on your browser toolbar. If your extension doesn’t show a QR code, click on the Disconnect button to bring up the QR code. 

  • If you have the MYKI Desktop App installed

From within the extension, click on “Have a Desktop App? Click here” to pair the MYKI Desktop App with the MYKI browser extension. 

  • If you have the MYKI app installed on your phone

Open your phone app > Go to the Devices section of the app > Click on “Add an extension” to scan the QR code displayed on the extension. 

D.  Restore

Now that you’ve paired the MYKI browser extension with the app installed on your new device, you can restore from a backup. 

The steps will slightly vary depending on which device is paired with the MYKI browser extension

If the extension is paired with the phone app

If the extension is paired with the MYKI Desktop App

  • When the extension is paired with the Desktop App, open the MYKI Desktop App > Click on the Settings menu > Click on Backup Center  and hit the Restore from file button showing on the top right side of the screen. From here you will be able to select the backup file you located in Step A ( Locate a MYKI Backup File) 

E.  Migrate your MYKI account to a new phone number

Now, it's time to replace the old sim card with the new one.

III. If you don't have MYKI installed on another device

  • If you don’t have MYKI setup on an existing device and don’t have access to your old phone number ( ability to receive an sms code on it) . Please reach out to us via email to support@myki.com so we can help you out.
